Thoughts on the Japan earthquake

  • Alan
  • 14 March 2011

This morning while reading the Metro on the bus ride to work, I noticed an awkward juxtaposition of Pokémon Black and White adverts with horrifying images of the aftermath of the Japan earthquake and tsunami. Although some of those new Pokémans are seriously cute, it’s hard to justify luxury purchases when others are suffering. While that’s true any day of the year, it hits a little harder than usual right now- especially after rumours on Twitter that the creator of Pokémon, Satoshi Tajiri, has been killed in the earthquake (which like everything else on Twitter turned out to be false).

Our website is about having fun, but sometimes a serious message is necessary. Instead of buying Pokémon Black, I’ve donated the cost of the game to the Red Cross to help those affected by the tsunami. While it’s a small gesture, I hope some of our readers take the time to do the same.
